But here’s what people are like who listen to my words but don’t obey them: They’re like a person who builds a house on soft ground instead of solid rock. The moment the river rushes against that house, it falls down and is destroyed.”
Don’t be led astray by all kinds of strange teachings. It’s good for our hearts to be made strong by God’s grace, not by eating foods that the law requires. Those foods don’t do anything for the people who eat them.
If a person believes in Christ Jesus, it doesn’t matter whether they’re circumcised or not. The only thing that matters is faith expressing itself through love.
But someone will say, “You have faith; I take action.” If you do have faith, the only way to show it is by the action it produces. But when I take action, that will show you the faith I have.
I tell you, unless your righteousness is even better than the righteousness of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you won’t enter the kingdom of heaven.
This is a saying you can trust. I want you to emphasize these things so that those who trust in God will be careful to commit themselves to doing good. These things are excellent and good for everyone.
Whenever we pray to our God and Father, we remember the work that your faith produces, the service that’s the result of your love, and the strength to continue that comes from your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
My brothers and sisters, you were called to be free. But don’t use your freedom as an excuse to live under the power of sin. Instead, serve one another humbly in love.
If one of you says to them, “I hope everything works out for you; stay warm and eat well,” but you don’t provide any practical help, what good is that?
