If someone thinks they’re religious, but they don’t control what they say, then they’re fooling themselves and their religion isn’t worth anything.

Don’t let any foul language come out of your mouths. Say only what will help build others up and meet their needs. Then what you say will help those who are listening.

Scripture says, “If anyone wants to love life and see good days, they must keep their tongue from speaking evil and their lips from telling lies.

There must not be any bad language or foolish talk or dirty jokes. Those are inappropriate. Instead, you should give thanks.

Learn how to speak with people graciously, using just the right words. That way you’ll know how to answer everyone.

Don’t fool yourselves by just listening to the word. You also have to do what it says.

My dear brothers and sisters, pay attention to what I say: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

Therefore, listen carefully. If someone has something, they will be given more. But if someone has nothing, even what they think they have will be taken away from them.”

If anyone thinks they’re somebody when they aren’t really anybody, they’re only fooling themselves.

The people in Jerusalem who were considered to be important didn’t add anything to my message. (And it didn’t matter to me who they were anyway. God doesn’t see some people as more important than others.)

Their worship doesn’t mean anything to me, because they’re only teaching human rules.’

Even worse, that would make us false witnesses about God, because we testified that God raised Christ from the dead. But God didn’t do that if the dead aren’t really raised.

You foolish person, do you want proof that faith that doesn’t take action is useless?

Have you experienced so much for nothing? (If it really was for nothing.)

James, Peter, and John, who are respected as pillars in the church, recognized that God had given me this privilege. So they shook hands with Barnabas and me to welcome us as partners. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles while they went to the Jews.

Don’t fool yourselves. If any of you think you’re wise by the standards of the world, you should become “fools” so that you can become truly wise.
