God did what the written law was not able to do, since it was weakened by our sinful desires. God sent his Son to be an offering for sin. He sent him in human form like those who are susceptible to sin. When God did this, he passed judgment against sin so that it could no longer control people through their wrong desires.

Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin. Moses’ law cannot make you right in God’s eyes.

The law didn’t make anything perfect, but a better hope has now been given to us, and it brings us near to God.

But now you do know God. Even better, God knows you. So why are you turning back to those weak and worthless powers? Do you want to be slaves to them all over again?

Physical training has some value, but being godly has value in every way. It can help both in the life you’re now living and in the life to come.

Don’t be led astray by all kinds of strange teachings. It’s good for our hearts to be made strong by God’s grace, not by eating foods that the law requires. Those foods don’t do anything for the people who eat them.

Here’s what I mean: The law was introduced 430 years after the covenant God made with Abraham. It can’t cancel their agreement or get rid of the promise.

Tell me, you who want to be under the authority of the law: Don’t you know what the law says?

Brothers and sisters, let me give you an example from everyday life. Once people make an official agreement, no one else can cancel it or change it.

So then, are we setting the law aside through faith? Not at all! We’re upholding the law.

So is the law opposed to God’s promises? Certainly not! If a law had been given that could give life, then people could become right with God by obeying that law.
