We don’t have a high priest who can’t feel what we feel when we’re weak. Instead, we have a high priest who has been tempted in every way just as we are, but without sinning.

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he’s able to help others who are being tempted.

The law appoints men who are weak to be high priests. But after the law had been given, God swore an oath and appointed his Son, who has been made perfect forever.

“Make level paths for your feet to walk on.” Then those who have trouble walking will be healed, and they won’t have difficulty anymore.

Remember when I first preached the good news to you? I stopped in your area because I was sick.

I’ll brag about a man like that, but I won’t brag about myself. I’ll only brag about how weak I am.

I used to say insulting things about Jesus. I tried to hurt his followers, and I even used violence against them. But God had mercy on me because I did those things without knowing any better. I wasn’t a believer.

If I have to brag, let me brag about the things that show how weak I am.

But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. When you have turned back, help your brothers to be strong.”

They have only a dim understanding, and they don’t appreciate what it’s like to follow God. They’re ignorant because their hearts are stubborn.

So he had to be made like them—fully human in every way. That way he could serve God as a merciful and faithful high priest and purify the people from their sins.

But only the high priest could go into the inner room, and he could only go in once a year. He never entered without bringing blood with him, which he had to offer for himself and for the sins the people had committed without knowing any better.

My brothers and sisters, if one of you wanders away from the truth and someone else brings that person back,

“You were like sheep wandering away.” But now you have returned to the Shepherd who watches over your souls.
