Remember your leaders, who spoke God’s word to you. Think about the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

Have confidence in your leaders and put yourselves under their authority, because they’re keeping watch over you as people who will have to answer to God for everything they do. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden. It wouldn’t help you at all if you made their work more difficult.

Brothers and sisters, join together in following my example. You have us as a model, so pay close attention to those who live the way we do.

We don’t want you to become lazy. Instead, imitate those who receive through faith and patience what God has promised.

And you imitated both us and the Lord Jesus, because even in the midst of terrible suffering, you welcomed our message with the joy that the Holy Spirit gives.

Paul and Barnabas appointed people who’d trusted in the Lord to be elders in each church. They prayed and fasted and committed the elders to the Lord’s care.

“Suppose a master puts one of his slaves in charge of the other slaves and tells him to give them their food at the right time. The master would want to choose a faithful and wise slave to do that.

After all, if someone doesn’t know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?

Greet all your leaders and all the Lord’s people. The believers from Italy send you their greetings.

We also thank God constantly for the way you received his word when you heard it from us. You didn’t accept it as a human word, but for what it is, the word of God. And that word is truly at work in you who believe.

So I’m asking you to follow my example.

So faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the preaching about Christ.

After they had prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke God’s word without any fear.

When the Lamb broke open the fifth seal, under the altar I saw the souls of people who had been killed because of God’s word and their faithful witness.

I saw thrones, and those who had been given authority to judge were sitting on them. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because they’d spoken the truth about Jesus and the word of God. They hadn’t worshiped the beast or its statue, and they hadn’t received its mark on their foreheads or hands. They came to life and ruled with Christ for 1,000 years.

I, John, am your brother and your partner in the suffering, the kingdom, and the patient endurance of Jesus. I was on the island of Patmos because of God’s word and the testimony of Jesus.

We earned our own living, even though we had the right to receive help from you, in order to set an example for you to follow.

Follow my example, just as I follow the example of Christ.

The Lord answered, “Suppose a master gives one of his servants the job of giving the other servants their food at the right time, as a faithful and wise manager.

“Here’s what the story means:

You know how you should follow our example. We weren’t lazy when we were with you.

You’re tempted in the same way that all other human beings are. And God is faithful; he won’t let you be tempted beyond what you can endure. When you are tempted, God will provide a way out, and then you’ll be able to resist.

Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly. “We had to speak God’s word to you first,” they said. “But you haven’t accepted it, as if you think you don’t deserve eternal life. So we’re going to talk to the Gentiles from now on.

One day when Jesus was standing by the Sea of Galilee, all the people crowded around him to listen to the word of God.

If anyone speaks, they should do it as someone who’s speaking God’s own words. If anyone serves, they should do it with the strength that God provides. That way God will be praised in all things through Jesus Christ. May he receive the glory and power for ever and ever. Amen.
