Give her as much pain and suffering as she gave glory and wealth to herself. She brags in her heart, ‘I rule on a throne like a queen. I’m not a widow; I’ll never mourn.’
Some were killed with stones, some were sawed in two, and some were killed by swords. They went around wearing the skins of sheep and goats. They were poor, systematically oppressed, and mistreated.
So don’t be ashamed of the message about our Lord, and don’t be ashamed of me, his prisoner. Instead, join with me as I suffer for the good news. God’s power will help us do that.

But because they have no roots, they last only a short time. When trouble or suffering comes because of the message, they quickly fall away from the faith.
