All of these people were still living by faith when they died. They didn’t receive the things God had promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a long way off. They admitted that they were outsiders and strangers on earth.

By faith Moses left Egypt. He knew this would make Pharaoh angry, but he wasn’t afraid. He didn’t let anything stop him, because he saw the God who can’t be seen.

Your father Abraham was filled with joy at the thought of seeing my day. He saw it and was glad.”

All these people were honored for their faith, but none of them received what God had promised.

So you’re no longer outsiders and strangers. Instead, you’re citizens together with God’s people, and you’re members of God’s family.

We can foresee the time when God will set our bodies free. That’s the hope we had when we were saved.

Dear friends, in this world you’re outsiders who are living away from their land. So don’t give in to your wrong desires, which fight against your soul.

You call on a Father who judges each person’s work without favoring one person over another. So live with the highest respect for God during your time as outsiders here.

He was absolutely sure that God had the power to do what he had promised.

This is how we know that we belong to the truth; it’s how we find peace in our hearts when we’re with God.

Truly I tell you, many prophets and godly people wanted to see what you’re seeing, but they didn’t see it, and they wanted to hear what you’re hearing, but they didn’t hear it.

Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.

So we don’t focus on what we can see. Instead, we focus on what we can’t see. That’s because the things that can be seen last only a short time, but the things that can’t be seen will last forever.

This gives us the confidence to keep living the way we do. We know that as long as we’re at home in our bodies, we’re away from the Lord.

People who say things like that show that they’re looking for a country of their own.

By faith Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God tested him. This man who had welcomed the promises was ready to offer his one and only son.
