Day after day every priest stands and performs his special duties. He offers the same sacrifices again and again, even though they can’t ever take away sins.
First he said, “You didn’t want sacrifices and offerings, and you weren’t pleased with burnt offerings and sin offerings.” He said this even though these things were being offered as the law required.
And to love God with all your heart and mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as you love yourself, is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming. It’s not the real things themselves. That’s why the law can never, through the same sacrifices that are repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect the people who come near to worship.
