Some of you used to do things like that. But you were washed and made holy and right with God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Unlike the other high priests, he doesn’t need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. Instead, Jesus made one sacrifice for the sins of the people, once and for all time, when he offered himself.
Because of what God has done, you belong to Christ Jesus. He has become God’s wisdom for us. He makes us right with God, he makes us holy, and he sets us free.
In the same way, Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people. He will also come a second time, not to take away our sins, but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for him.
He didn’t enter by shedding the blood of goats and calves. Instead, he entered the Most Holy Place by shedding his own blood, once and for all time. In that way, he paid the price to set us free from sin forever.
If he had, he would have had to suffer many times since the world was created. No, he has appeared once and for all time, now when God’s work is being completed. He has come to do away with sin by offering himself.
Because those children have bodies made out of flesh and blood, Jesus became human like them in order to die for them. By doing that, he could stop the one who rules over the kingdom of death, that is, the devil,
This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He didn’t come by water only, but by water and blood. The Spirit is a truthful witness about this, because the Spirit is the truth.
Jesus, who makes people holy, belongs to the same family as the people he makes holy. That’s why he isn’t ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, with loud cries and tears he prayed to and pleaded with the God who could save him from death, and God listened to him because of his reverence.
So how much cleaner will the blood of Christ make us! He offered himself to God without any flaw through the power of the eternal Holy Spirit. His blood washes away our feelings of guilt for committing sin. Sin always leads to death. But now we can serve the living God.
But wouldn’t people deserve even more punishment if they’ve trampled the Son of God under their feet, treated the blood of the covenant as unholy, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
Christ also suffered once for sins. Someone who did right suffered for those who did wrong, in order to bring you to God. Jesus was put to death in the body, but he was made alive in the Spirit.
