They arranged to meet with Paul on a certain day. When it came, even more of the Jewish leaders went to the place where he was staying. From morning until evening, he told them about the kingdom of God. He used the Law of Moses and the Prophets to try to convince them about Jesus.
Jesus said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you. Everything that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must come true.”
But when the Spirit of truth comes, he’ll guide you into all the truth. He won’t speak on his own, he’ll speak only what he hears. He’ll tell you what’s still going to happen.
So then how will we escape if we don’t pay attention to the even greater salvation that the Lord Jesus announced? Those who heard him told us what he said,
It’s true that Joshua led the next generation of Israelites into the promised land. But if that had been the rest God said he was planning, God wouldn’t have spoken later about another day.
In the same way, Christ didn’t claim for himself the privilege of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, “You are my Son, today I have become your Father.”
Moses first announced every command of the law to all the people. Then he took the blood of calves, together with water, bright red wool, and branches from a hyssop plant, and he sprinkled the Book of the Covenant and all the people.
So make sure that you don’t disobey the one who’s speaking to you now. If they didn’t escape when they disobeyed the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we disobey the one who’s warning us from heaven!
