Those desires don’t want what the Spirit wants, and the Spirit doesn’t want what they want. The two are at war with each other, and that’s why you’re not supposed to do whatever you want.

If you live that way, you’ll die. But if, by the Spirit’s power, you put to death the wrong things people do in their bodies, then you will live.

People give birth to people, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

“Watch and pray so that you won’t fall into sin when you’re tempted. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

We all fail in many ways. If someone never says the wrong thing, then they’re a perfect person who’s able to keep their whole body under control.

Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You’re like a rock in my path to trip me. You’re not thinking about what God wants. You’re only thinking about what people want.”

“Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up! Pray that you won’t fall into sin when you are tempted.”

“Anyone who isn’t with me is against me, and anyone who doesn’t gather with me scatters.

So is the law opposed to God’s promises? Certainly not! If a law had been given that could give life, then people could become right with God by obeying that law.

But Simon answered, “Lord, I’m ready to go with you to prison and to death.”

Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah! No mere human showed that to you, but my Father in heaven.

Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for justice, because they will be fully satisfied.
