The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far away—for everyone the Lord our God will call.”

Some of you used to do things like that. But you were washed and made holy and right with God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Remember that you used to be separated from Christ. You weren’t considered to be citizens of Israel, and so you didn’t have a share in what the covenants promised. You were without hope and without God in the world.

There’s no longer any Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female, because you’re all one in Christ Jesus.

If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old is gone! The new is here!

Christ also suffered once for sins. Someone who did right suffered for those who did wrong, in order to bring you to God. Jesus was put to death in the body, but he was made alive in the Spirit.

That’s why even the first covenant was not put into effect without the shedding of blood.

Because of what God has done, you belong to Christ Jesus. He has become God’s wisdom for us. He makes us right with God, he makes us holy, and he sets us free.

Therefore, those who belong to Christ Jesus are no longer under God’s judgment.

“Then the Lord said to me, ‘Go, I’m sending you far away to the Gentiles.’ ”

Simon Peter has described for us how God chose some of the Gentiles to be among his very own people.

I have other sheep who aren’t in this sheep pen. I must bring them in too. They will also listen to my voice, and then there will be one flock and one shepherd.

We were all baptized by one Spirit into one body. It didn’t matter whether we were Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free people. We were all given the same Spirit to drink.

You were following the ways of this world and serving the one who rules over the spiritual forces of evil. That’s the spirit who’s still at work in those who aren’t obeying God.

God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in his heavenly kingdom, because we belong to Christ Jesus.

God made us with his own hands through Christ Jesus for good works, and long ago he prepared them for us as a way of life.
