The Spirit is a guarantee that someday we’ll receive all that God has promised. That will happen after God sets all his people completely free. All these things will bring praise to his glory.

God made us for that very purpose, and he has given us the Holy Spirit as a down payment, a guarantee of what is still to come.

and he has put his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee that he’ll give us everything else he promised.

Do not grieve God’s Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the proof that you belong to God and that God will set you completely free one day.

Because you are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts. This is the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father!”

And that’s not all. We have the first signs of what the Spirit will give us fully, but we also are groaning inside as we wait for our adoption to be finalized.

We were the first to put our hope in Christ, and we were chosen to bring praise to his glory.

“Now I commit you to God and to the message about his grace. It can build you up and give you a share in what God plans to give all his people.

But God chose you to be his own people, his royal priests, a holy nation, his special treasure. You’re all these things so that you can tell everyone how wonderful God is. He brought you out of darkness and into his marvelous light.

Keep watch over yourselves and all the believers that the Holy Spirit has made you leaders over. Be shepherds of God’s church, which he bought with his own blood.

When these things begin to happen, stand up and hold your heads high, because the time is near when you will be set free.”

Because of what God has done, you belong to Christ Jesus. He has become God’s wisdom for us. He makes us right with God, he makes us holy, and he sets us free.

God chose us to belong to him, as he had decided long ago in keeping with his plan. He works everything out to fit his plan and purpose.
