Acts 6:3

Radiate New Testament

Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are wise and filled with the Holy Spirit. We’ll turn this important work over to them.

and she must be well known for doing good things such as bringing up children, inviting guests into her home, serving the Lord’s people in humble ways, and helping those in trouble. A widow should spend her time doing all kinds of good things like these.

Demetrius has a good reputation with everyone, and even with the truth itself. We can also vouch for him personally, and you know you can trust our word.

Every good and perfect gift is from above. It comes down from the Father who created the heavenly lights. He doesn’t change like shadows that move.

Don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to wild living. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

When I arrive, I’ll send some people with your gift to Jerusalem. They’ll be people you trust. You can choose them yourselves. I’ll give them letters to explain who they are.

The group brought these men to the apostles, and they prayed for them and placed their hands on them.

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in languages they’d never learned. The Spirit gave them the ability to do this.

So we need to choose someone to take the place of Judas. It will have to be a person who was with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us.

“But you shouldn’t be called ‘Rabbi,’ because you have only one Teacher, and you are all brothers.

To one person, the Spirit gives a message of wisdom. To another, the same Spirit gives a message of knowledge.

The believers at Lystra and Iconium said such good things about Timothy

Here’s the letter they sent with them: From the apostles and elders, your brothers. To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia. Greetings.

When the other believers found out about this, they took Saul down to Caesarea, and from there they sent him off to Tarsus.

Because Jesus said this, a rumor spread among the believers that the disciple Jesus loved wouldn’t die. But Jesus didn’t say he wouldn’t die. He only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what does that matter to you?”

In those days there were about 120 believers. Peter stood up among them to speak.

So the 12 apostles gathered all the disciples together. They said, “It wouldn’t be right for us to give up teaching God’s word in order to wait on tables.

This plan pleased everyone. They chose Stephen, a man who was full of faith and of the Holy Spirit. They also chose Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, who was a convert to the Jewish faith.

There we found some believers, who invited us to spend a week with them. At last we came to Rome.
