They sold houses and land and other things they owned so that they could give to anyone who needed anything.

I tell you, use the riches of this world to make friends for yourselves. Then when your riches are gone, you will be welcomed into an eternal home.

So sell what you own and give to the poor. That will be like putting your money in a bag that will never wear out. Store up your riches in heaven, where they can never be used up, where no thief can get near them and no moth can destroy them.

Then Jesus asked the disciples, “Did you lack anything when I sent you without a purse, bag, or sandals?” “Nothing,” they answered.

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “You’re missing one thing,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give the money to the poor, and you’ll have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have. Give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

That way they will store up true riches for themselves. This will provide a firm basis for the next life so that they can take hold of the life that really is life.

He sold a field he owned and brought the money from the sale and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is to take care of widows and orphans who are in trouble and not let the world contaminate you.

Then outsiders will have respect for your everyday life, and you won’t have to depend on anyone.

Right now you’re well off and you can help others with what they need. Later on they’ll be well off and they’ll be able to help you. That will make things fair for everyone.
