The leaders knew that Peter and John were ordinary, untrained men, and so they were amazed by how boldly they spoke. They recognized that the two of them had been with Jesus.

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

The Jews there were amazed and asked, “How can this man know so much when he’s never been taught?”

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you’ve hidden these things from wise and educated people and shown them to little children.

After a little while, the people standing there came up to Peter and said, “You must be one of them. Your accent gives you away.”

No! But God’s curse is on this mob that knows nothing about the law.”

Jesus sent Peter and John on ahead and told them, “Go, prepare for us to eat the Passover meal.”

Then he moved out to the gate that led into the courtyard. There another servant saw him and said to the people, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, this is your son.”

The leaders could see the man who’d been healed standing there with them. So there was nothing for them to say.

But Peter and John replied, “Which is right from God’s point of view? For us listen to you, or to God? You be the judges!

Now, Lord, consider their threats and help us to be very bold when we speak your word.

After they had prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke God’s word without any fear.

But Barnabas brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul had seen the Lord while on his journey and how the Lord had spoken to him. Barnabas also explained that in Damascus Saul had preached without fear in Jesus’ name.

So Saul stayed with the believers, moving about freely in Jerusalem and speaking boldly in the Lord’s name.

Since we have that kind of hope, we are very bold.
