Three days later Paul called a meeting of the local Jewish leaders. When they came, Paul said to them, “My brothers, I have done nothing against our people or the customs we’ve had since long ago. But I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.

Then Paul spoke up for himself. He said, “I haven’t done anything wrong against the law of the Jews or their temple, and I haven’t done anything wrong against Caesar.”

We’ve heard him say that Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the practices that Moses handed down to us.”

Paul answered, “I’m now standing in Caesar’s court. That’s where I should be put on trial, because I haven’t done anything wrong to the Jews. You know that yourself very well.

The high priest and the whole Council could tell you this themselves. I even asked them to write official letters to their friends in Damascus so I could go there and bring Jesus’ followers as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.

There the chief priests and the Jewish leaders came to him and brought their charges against Paul.

When the horsemen arrived in Caesarea, they gave the letter to the governor and handed Paul over to him.

But the Jewish leaders stirred up some important Gentile women who attended the synagogue. They also stirred up some men who were leaders in the city. They got all these people to oppose and attack Paul and Barnabas, and they threw the two men out of that area. But
