The next day we landed at Sidon. There Julius kindly let Paul visit his friends so they could give him things he needed.

He ordered the officer to keep Paul under guard but to give him some freedom and let his friends to take care of his needs.

“Here’s a problem needing wisdom and careful thinking. The seven heads are seven hills that the woman sits on.

But the commander wanted to save Paul’s life, so he kept the soldiers from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to throw themselves overboard first and swim to land.

But Paul spoke to the commander and the soldiers. “These men must stay with the ship,” he said. “If they don’t, you can’t be saved.”

The next night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Don’t be afraid! You’ve told people about me in Jerusalem, and you must do the same in Rome.”

After all this had happened, Paul decided to go over to Macedonia and Achaia and then on to Jerusalem. “And after I’ve been there,” he said, “I must also visit Rome.”

There he met a Jew named Aquila, who was originally from Pontus. Aquila had recently moved from Italy with his wife Priscilla after the emperor Claudius ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them,

Phrygia, or Pamphylia. Some of us are from Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene. Still others are visitors from Rome.
