Agrippa said to Paul, “You may now speak for yourself.” So Paul, gesturing with his hands, began to present his case.

But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! I’ve chosen this man to do a special work for me. He will announce my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.

“King Agrippa,” he said, “I’m glad I can stand before you today to answer all the charges the Jews are making against me.

“Does our law find a man guilty without listening to him first to find out what he has been doing?”

But concerning Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a stubborn people who don’t obey me.”

“I told them that’s not the way Romans do things. We don’t judge anyone before they’ve had the chance to face the people bringing charges against them and answer for themselves.

“Brothers and fathers,” Paul said, “listen to me now. I want to explain my actions.”

It doesn’t make sense to send a prisoner on to Rome without listing any charges against him.”
