When Ananias the high priest heard this, he ordered the men standing near Paul to strike him on the face.
When Jesus responded this way, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is that any way to answer the high priest?” he demanded.
Five days later Ananias the high priest went down to Caesarea. Some elders and a lawyer named Tertullus went with him. They told the governor what charges they wanted to make against Paul.
Then they spit in his face and hit him with their fists. Others slapped him
“If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “then tell everyone what it was. But if I spoke the truth, why did you hit me?”
