The people arguing were getting so out of control that the commander began to worry that they would tear Paul to pieces. So he ordered some soldiers to take him away from them by force and bring him into the fort.

Some in the crowd shouted one thing, while others shouted something else. The commander couldn’t get the facts because of all the noise, so he ordered Paul to be taken into the fort.

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him whipped.

Women received their loved ones back when they were raised from the dead. Others had to suffer greatly, but they refused to be set free, so that after death they could be raised to an even better life.

The man I’m sending you was seized by the Jews, and they were about to kill him. But I came with my soldiers and rescued him, because I had learned that he was a Roman citizen.

But Paul replied to the officers, “The judges had us beaten in public. They didn’t give us a trial, even though we are Roman citizens! Then they threw us into prison. And now they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come and lead us out personally.”

The soldiers were about to take Paul into the fort when he asked the commander, “May I say something to you?” “You speak Greek?” he replied.

They questioned me and wanted to let me go because they saw I wasn’t guilty of any crime that deserved death.
