So be on your guard! Remember that for three years, I never stopped warning each of you as I wept over you night and day.

I served the Lord humbly. I wept and struggled when the Jews who opposed me set traps against me.

This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.

Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months. He gave good reasons for believing the truth about the kingdom of God.

Have confidence in your leaders and put yourselves under their authority, because they’re keeping watch over you as people who will have to answer to God for everything they do. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden. It wouldn’t help you at all if you made their work more difficult.

Christ is the one we preach about. With all the wisdom we have, we warn and teach everyone so that when we bring them to God, they will be like Christ. We want them to be mature in Christ.

But as for you, stay in control of yourself no matter what happens. Don’t give up when things become difficult. Work to spread the good news. Fulfill all the responsibilities of your work.

So always keep watching. Pray that you will be able to escape all that is about to happen, and pray that you will be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

But while everyone was sleeping, an enemy came, planted weeds among the wheat, and then slipped away.

“Look! I’m coming like a thief! Blessed is anyone who stays awake and keeps their clothes on. Then they’ll be ready, and they won’t be caught naked and be embarrassed.”

We didn’t eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, we worked night and day, laboring away so that we wouldn’t cause any expense to any of you.

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, to warn certain people who don’t want to work and who are being disruptive. Encourage those who have lost hope, help those who are weak, and be patient with everyone.

I’m not writing this to make you ashamed, but to warn you as my dear children.

“I’d been away from Jerusalem for several years, but recently I came back to offer sacrifices and to bring some gifts for Jewish people who are poor.

Then Paul went upstairs again and broke bread and ate with the people. He kept on talking until it was daylight, and then he left.

On the first day of the week we met with the believers to share a meal. Paul spoke to the people, and because he was planning to leave the next day, he kept on talking until midnight.

But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to be baptized, John said to them, “You little snakes! Who warned you to try to escape the punishment that’s coming?

I’ve told you these things many times before, and I’m telling you them again with tears in my eyes. Many people live like enemies of the cross of Christ.

Don’t you remember that when I was with you, I used to tell you these things?
