They were amazed and didn’t understand how this could be. They asked one another, “What does this mean?”

“Men of Galilee,” they asked, “why are you standing here looking at the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come back just as you saw him go.”

They answered, “Are you from Galilee too? Look into it—you’ll find that no prophet is going to come out of Galilee.”

They recognized him as the same man who’d always sat and begged at the Beautiful Gate. They were filled with wonder, and they were amazed at what had happened to him.

The man got up, took his mat, and walked away while everyone was watching. All the people were amazed. They praised God and said, “We’ve never seen anything like this!”

All the people were amazed and asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with such authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits, and they obey him.”

After a little while, the people standing there came up to Peter and said, “You must be one of them. Your accent gives you away.”

The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. He said to the people following him, “Truly I tell you, I haven’t met anyone in Israel whose faith is this great.

Then why do we each hear them speaking in our own native language?
