Then many people in Ephesus became very upset about the Way of Jesus.

But these people say insulting things even when they don’t know what they’re talking about. They’re like wild animals that can’t think and just live by instinct, that are born only to be caught and destroyed. These people will die like animals too.

The people of the city were divided. Some took the side of the Jews, while others took the side of the apostles.

But these people say insulting things about whatever they don’t understand. And the only things they do understand will destroy them. They’re like wild animals who can’t think for themselves and live only by instinct.

But many people will do the same wrong things that the false teachers do, and this will cause people to think badly about the way of truth.

Instead, encourage one another every day, while it’s still called “Today,” so that sin doesn’t deceive any of you and harden you.

It causes trouble all the time between people whose minds are twisted by sin. They once knew the truth, but it has been taken away from them. They think they can get rich by being godly.

What should we say then? The people of Israel didn’t receive what they wanted so badly. Those Israelites who were chosen did receive it, but the rest of the people were made stubborn.

So God does what he wants to do. He shows mercy to one person and makes another person stubborn.

I attacked the followers of the Way of Jesus and even sent many of them to their deaths. I arrested men and women and threw them into prison.

“You stubborn people! You won’t obey! You won’t listen! You’re just like your people of long ago! You always oppose the Holy Spirit!

Preach the word, be ready to serve God in good times and bad, correct people’s mistakes. Warn them, encourage them with words of hope, and be very patient as you do these things. Teach the people carefully,

They’ll pretend that they’re serving God, but they won’t believe that God has any power. Don’t have anything to do with people like that.

You know that all the believers in the province of Asia have deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

Paul wanted to appear in front of the crowd himself, but the disciples wouldn’t let him.

He won over some of the Jews, who joined him and Silas. A large number of Greeks who worshiped God joined them too, as did quite a few important women.

When he found him, he brought him back with him to Antioch. For a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught large numbers of people. It was there at Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians.

“The Lord has blinded their eyes, and he has closed their minds, so they can’t see with their eyes, and they can’t understand with their minds or turn to the Lord—if they could, he would heal them.”

Then Jesus asked the crowd, “Why did you come here with swords and clubs to capture me, as if I’d been leading a rebellion? I was in the temple courtyard every day teaching, but you didn’t try to arrest me.

An evil and unfaithful generation looks for a sign, but it won’t be given any except the sign of Jonah.” Then Jesus left them and went away.

Don’t worry about the Pharisees. They’re blind guides. If one blind person leads another, they’ll both fall into a pit.”

A door has opened wide for me to do some good work here, even though there are also many people who oppose me.
