But you’ve seen and heard what this man Paul is doing. Here in Ephesus and almost everywhere in the province of Asia he has led large numbers of people away from our gods. He says that gods made by human hands aren’t gods at all.

So then, here’s what I say about eating food sacrificed to idols. We know that “an idol really is nothing at all in the world.” We know that “there is only one God.”

“And since we are God’s children, we shouldn’t think that God is made out of gold or silver or stone. He isn’t a statue that humans have designed and made.

The people who weren’t killed by these plagues still didn’t stop what they’d been doing. They didn’t stop worshiping demons and idols made out of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood. Those idols can’t see or hear or walk.

This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.

“Friends, why are you doing this? We’re only human, just like you. We’re bringing you good news, telling you to turn away from these worthless things to the living God. He’s the one who made the heavens, the earth, and the sea and everything in them.

All the other believers are already talking about the kind of welcome you gave us, about how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God,

At one time you didn’t know God. You were slaves to gods that aren’t really gods at all.

You know that before you were believers, you were somehow drawn away to worship idols that couldn’t even speak.

When they arrived at Ephesus, Paul asked Priscilla and Aquila to stay there. He himself went into the synagogue and talked with the Jews.

While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the inland road over to Ephesus. When he arrived there, he found some disciples.

One day he called them together, with others who were in similar businesses. “My friends,” he said, “you know that we make good money from our work.
