But I am going to come very soon, if that’s the Lord’s will. Then I’ll find out if there’s actually any power behind what these proud people are saying.

Instead, you should say, “If it’s the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

So now I want to talk about things beyond these basic teachings, and I’ll do that as God allows.

That way, I’ll be full of joy when come to you, if that’s God’s will, and we’ll have a refreshing time together.

I’m praying that now at last God will open a way for me to come and visit you.

Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus because didn’t want to spend too much time in the province of Asia. He was in a hurry to get to Jerusalem because he wanted to be there if possible by the day of Pentecost.

If it’s God’s will for you to suffer for doing good, that’s better than suffering for doing wrong.

Finally, brothers and sisters, be joyful! Work to make everything right with one another. Encourage one another and agree with each other. Live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

I don’t want to see you now while I’m just passing through. Instead, I want to spend some time with you, if the Lord allows that.

We couldn’t change his mind, so we stopped begging him and said, “Whatever the Lord wants will be done.”

After all this had happened, Paul decided to go over to Macedonia and Achaia and then on to Jerusalem. “And after I’ve been there,” he said, “I must also visit Rome.”

Don’t eat food that has been offered to statues of gods. Don’t drink blood. Don’t eat meat that still has blood in it. And don’t be involved in sexual immorality. You will do well to keep away from such things. Farewell.

Still another person said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”

He went off a little distance and got down on the ground face first. He prayed, “My Father, if possible, please take this cup of suffering away from me. But let your will be done, not mine.”

Once the crowd was gone, he went up on a mountainside to pray.

When they arrived at Ephesus, Paul asked Priscilla and Aquila to stay there. He himself went into the synagogue and talked with the Jews.

They asked him to spend more time with them, but he said he couldn’t.

Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos came to Ephesus. He was an educated man from Alexandria who knew the Scriptures very well.

While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the inland road over to Ephesus. When he arrived there, he found some disciples.

When the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus heard about this, they were all overcome with fear. It led them to hold the name of the Lord Jesus in high honor.

They said this because they had seen Trophimus, a man from Ephesus, in the city with Paul. They assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.

If I fought wild animals in Ephesus with nothing more than human hopes, then what did I gain by that? If the dead aren’t raised, “Let us eat and drink, because tomorrow we’ll die.”

But I’m going to stay here in Ephesus until the day of Pentecost.

From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God. To God’s holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful to Christ Jesus.

The voice said, “Write what you see on a scroll and send it to the seven churches in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”

“Write this to the angel of the church in Ephesus: These are the words of the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.
