When they heard Paul talk about the dead being raised, some of them laughed at that idea. But others said, “We want to hear you speak about this again.”

Why should any of you think it’s impossible for God to raise the dead?

A group of Epicurean and Stoic thinkers began to argue with him. Some of them asked, “What is this person blabbing on about?” Others said, “He seems to be talking about gods we’ve never heard of.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and saying that he’d risen from the dead.

He says, “When I had mercy on you, I heard you. On the day I saved you, I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time when God is having mercy. Now is the day when he wants to save us.

Instead, they argued with him about their own beliefs and about a man named Jesus. They said he was dead, but Paul claimed he was alive.

Paul talked about how to live a godly life, about how people should control themselves, and about the time when God will judge everyone. This made Felix afraid. He said, “That’s enough for now! You may go, but when I find the time, I’ll send for you again.”

But some people in the crowd made fun of the believers. They said, “They’ve had too much wine!”

We’re fools for Christ, but you’re so wise in Christ! We’re weak, but you’re so strong! You are honored, but we’re looked down on!

He has set a day when he will judge the entire world fairly, and he has appointed a man to be its judge. God has proved this to everyone by raising that man from the dead.”

“But they all began to make excuses. The first one said, ‘I’ve just bought a field and I have to go see it. Please excuse me.’

but we preach about Christ and his death on the cross. That’s very hard for Jews to accept, and Gentiles think it’s foolish.

“ ‘Look, you who make fun of the truth! Wonder and die! I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe even if someone told you.’ ”

So let’s go to him outside the camp and be willing to suffer the shame he suffered.

Some were insulted and whipped; some were held in chains and put in prison.

The soldiers also came up and made fun of him. They offered him wine vinegar

Herod and his soldiers mocked Jesus and made fun of him. They dressed him in a fancy robe and then sent him back to Pilate.

The men who were guarding Jesus began to make fun of him and beat him.

When Paul left the meeting of the Areopagus,

But since we do preach that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that no one rises from the dead?
