After they’d been beaten very badly, they were thrown into prison. The jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.

Don’t be afraid of what you’re going to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you’ll be mistreated for ten days. Be faithful, even if you have to die, and I’ll give you life as your victory crown.

and I’m suffering for it like a criminal in these chains. But God’s word isn’t being held back by chains.

But I would rather appeal to you on the basis of love. I, Paul, am an old man, and now I’m also a prisoner of Christ Jesus.

When the jailer woke up and saw that the prison doors were open, he pulled out his sword to kill himself, thinking the prisoners had escaped.

In the morning the soldiers were in an uproar because no one could figure out what had happened to Peter.

He put Peter in prison and had him guarded by four groups of four soldiers each. Herod was planning to bring him out for a public trial after the Passover Feast.

and asked him to write letters to the synagogues in Damascus. If he found any men and women there who belonged to the Way of Jesus, the letters would allow him to take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

But Saul began to destroy the church. He went from house to house and dragged out men and women and put them in prison.

“We found the jail locked up tight, with guards standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors, we didn’t find anyone inside.”

They arrested them and put them in the public jail.

“But before all this, people will arrest you and systematically oppress you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison. You will be brought to kings and governors. All this will happen to you because of my name,

Judas had arranged to hand Jesus over by giving them a signal. “The one I kiss will be the man,” he’d told them—“arrest him!”

I, John, am your brother and your partner in the suffering, the kingdom, and the patient endurance of Jesus. I was on the island of Patmos because of God’s word and the testimony of Jesus.

We don’t give up if we’re beaten or put in prison, or if people stir up trouble in the streets. We work hard and go without sleep or food if we have to.

Are they serving Christ? I’m serving him even more. (I’m out of my mind to talk like this!) I’ve worked much harder. I’ve been in prison more often. I’ve suffered terrible beatings. Again and again I’ve almost died.
