One of the women who listened to us was named Lydia. She was from the city of Thyatira, and she had a business selling purple cloth. She already believed in God, and the Lord opened her heart to accept Paul’s message.

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

Here I am! I’ll keep standing at the door and knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I’ll come in and eat with that person, and they’ll eat with me.

He and all his family believed in God, and they worshiped at the synagogue. He gave freely to people who were in need, and he prayed to God regularly.

So Philip started out, and on the way he met an important official. That man was in charge of all the wealth of the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. He had gone to Jerusalem to worship,

There were some Greeks among the people who’d gone up to Jerusalem for the Passover Feast.

But the Jewish leaders stirred up some important Gentile women who attended the synagogue. They also stirred up some men who were leaders in the city. They got all these people to oppose and attack Paul and Barnabas, and they threw the two men out of that area. But

So Paul and Silas were freed, and they went to Lydia’s house. They met with the brothers and sisters there and encouraged them. Then they left Philippi.
