It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you. But here are a few essentials.

All the other believers are already talking about the kind of welcome you gave us, about how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God,

We’ve heard that some of our people came and bothered and upset you by things they said. But they came without any authority from us.

I preached first to the people in Damascus, and then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles. I told them to give up their sins and turn to God and to show they’d done this by the way they lived.

That question came up because some false believers had slipped in among us to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. They wanted to make us slaves again.

Now then, why are you trying to test God by putting a heavy load on the shoulders of the Gentiles? Our people of long ago couldn’t carry that load, and we today can’t either.

They’ve been told that you teach the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from the Law of Moses. They think that you teach those Jews to give up our Jewish ways and not circumcise their children.

We’ve already written a letter to the believers who aren’t Jews. We’ve told them not to eat food that has been offered to statues of gods, not to drink blood, not to eat meat that still has blood in it, and not to be sexually immoral.”
