Barnabas and Saul, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.

One person who did this was Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus. The apostles called him Barnabas, which means Son of Encouragement.

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “I’ve appointed Barnabas and Saul for a special task. Set them apart for me.”

Some of the believers who’d been scattered by the attacks that started after Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, spreading the word among Jews.

From there we headed out to sea again and went along the calmer side of Cyprus because the winds were against us.

I only know that the Spirit has been warning me in every city that I will face prison and suffering.

The prophets and teachers fasted and prayed and placed their hands on them, and then they sent them off.

Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s go back to all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord. Let’s visit the believers there and see how they are doing.”
