Abraham and his family received a promise that he would inherit the world, but that wasn’t because he obeyed the law. It was because of his faith, which made him right with God.

Today I’m on trial because of my hope in what God promised our people long ago.

They’ve been adopted as God’s children. God’s glory belongs to them, and so do the covenants. They received the law and they were taught to worship in the temple. They were given the promises,

“My friends, here’s what I want you to know. I announce to you that your sins can be forgiven because of what Jesus has done.

And how can anyone preach to them without being sent? It is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Every day they continued to teach, both standing in the temple courtyards and going from house to house. They never stopped telling people the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.

So turn away from your sins and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped away. Then the time will come when the Lord makes everything new.

but the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid! I’ve brought you good news that will give great joy to all people.

The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel! I’m the angel who stands right next to God! I’ve been sent to speak to you and tell you this good news.

You know the message that God sent to the people of Israel. It’s the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

“From this man’s family line, God has brought the Savior Jesus to Israel, just as he promised.

“Friends, why are you doing this? We’re only human, just like you. We’re bringing you good news, telling you to turn away from these worthless things to the living God. He’s the one who made the heavens, the earth, and the sea and everything in them.

Long ago God announced the good news about his Son through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures.
