They did everything that had been written about Jesus. Then they took him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb.

Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth, and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, where no one had ever been buried before.

After Jesus drank it, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and died.

Later, when Jesus knew that everything had now been finished, so that Scripture would come true, he said, “I’m thirsty.”

The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead, even though you killed him by nailing him to a cross.

The people of Jerusalem and their rulers didn’t recognize Jesus. By finding him guilty, they made the words of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath day, come true.

They did what your power and purpose had already decided would happen.

Long ago God planned that Jesus would be handed over to you. With the help of those who didn’t know God’s law, and under the plan God spoke long ago, you put him to death by nailing him to a cross.

It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). As evening approached,

There was man named Joseph who was a member of the Jewish Council. He was a good and honest man,

But God has helped me right up until this very moment. So I’m standing here and speaking about him to everyone, whether they’re kings or just ordinary people. I’ve been saying nothing different from what the prophets and Moses said would happen.
