“Men of Galilee,” they asked, “why are you standing here looking at the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come back just as you saw him go.”
“Look! He’s coming with the clouds!” “Every eye will see him, even those who pierced him.” All the nations of the earth “will mourn because of him.” This will happen! Amen.
The Lord himself will come down from heaven shouting a command, with the voice of the chief angel, and with a blast from God’s trumpet. Then those who believed in Christ but have already died will rise first.
“Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven. Then all the peoples of the earth will mourn, when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
and about how you’re waiting for his Son to come from heaven. The Son is the one God raised from the dead, Jesus, and he saves us from God’s coming anger.
“Fellow Israelites,” Peter said to them, “why does this surprise you? Why are you staring at us, as if we had made this man walk because we were so good or powerful?
I mean starting from when John began baptizing right through to when Jesus was taken up from us. The one we choose must be a witness with us that Jesus rose from the dead.”
In the same way, Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people. He will also come a second time, not to take away our sins, but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for him.
