Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I’ve written both of them as reminders. I want to encourage you to think in a pure way.

That’s why I want to encourage you to fan into flame the gift that God gave you when I placed my hands on you.

You’ve made yourselves pure by obeying the truth. Now, you have an honest and true love for each other. So love one another deeply from your hearts.

Don’t be too quick to place your hands on others to set them apart to serve God. If it turns out that they’re involved in sin, it will look as if you approve. Keep yourself pure.

Blessed are those who have pure hearts, because they will see God.

I already warned you during my second visit, and I’ll say it again now while I’m away: When I return, I won’t spare those who sinned earlier. I won’t spare any of the others, either,

Even though we’re talking like this, we’re sure of better things in your case, dear friends—things that go with being saved.

Dear friends, in this world you’re outsiders who are living away from their land. So don’t give in to your wrong desires, which fight against your soul.

But don’t forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

Dear friends, since you’re looking forward to this, try your best to be found pure, blameless, and at peace with God.

But you, dear friends, have already been warned about this. So be on your guard. Otherwise, people who don’t obey the law might lead you astray, and you’ll lose your secure position.

I want to remind you about some things you already know. The Lord saved his people when he brought them out of Egypt. But later he destroyed those who didn’t believe.
