Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

My brothers and sisters, you were called to be free. But don’t use your freedom as an excuse to live under the power of sin. Instead, serve one another humbly in love.

Live as free people, but don’t use your freedom to cover up evil. Live as people who are God’s slaves.

Christ has set us free so that we can be free. So stand firm, and don’t let anyone make you a slave again.

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, and controlled by all kinds of wrong desires and pleasures. We were hostile and envious. Other people hated us, and we hated them.

That way they may come to their senses and escape the devil’s trap, since he has taken them as prisoners to do what he wants.

They may have escaped from the corruption of the world, and they may have come to know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But if they get tangled up again in sin, and it becomes their master, then they’re worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on Sceva’s sons, overpowered them all, and gave them a terrible beating. They ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

He has given us his very great and precious promises so that you can share in his nature. You have escaped from the corruption that’s in the world because of wrong desires.
