The way we show our love is by obeying God’s commands. As you’ve heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

In fact, this is what it means to love God: to obey his commands. And his commands aren’t hard to obey,

Make sure that what you’ve heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, then you’ll remain in the Son and in the Father.

But if anyone does obey God’s word, then that person truly loves God. This is how we know we belong to him:

If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. In the same way, I have obeyed my Father’s commands and I remain in his love.

“If you love me, obey my commands.

You are my friends if you do what I command.

Anyone who has my commands and obeys them loves me. My Father will love the one who loves me, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

And if we know that God hears us, we know that we have whatever we ask for.

And now, dear lady, I’m not writing you a new command. I’m writing one we’ve had from the beginning. I’m asking that we love one another.

Jesus answered, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

Dear friends, I’m not writing you a new command. Instead, I’m writing one that you’ve heard before. You’ve had it since the beginning.
