I have a lot to write to you, but I don’t want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you so we can talk face to face. That will make our joy complete.

I’ve told you this so that you’ll have the same joy that I have and your joy will be complete.

I particularly ask you to pray that I’ll be able to come back to you soon.

I plan to see you when I go to Spain. I hope to visit you on my way there, and I hope you’ll help me get the rest of the way once we’ve had a good visit together.

“I’m coming to you now, but I say these things while I’m still in the world so that those you gave me can have the same joy that I have.

Up till now you haven’t asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy will be complete.

I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been set free. If he arrives here soon, I’ll come with him to see you.

There’s one more thing: Have a guest room ready for me. I hope that I’ll be released and that I’ll be able to come see you, in answer to your prayers.

I recall your tears, and I long to see you so that I can be filled with joy.

The bride belongs to the groom. The friend who helps the groom waits and listens for him, and he’s filled with joy when he hears the groom’s voice. That joy is mine, and now it is complete.

So when I come, I’ll show everyone what he’s doing. He’s saying malicious things about us that aren’t true. And as if that weren’t bad enough, he’s also refusing to welcome other believers, and he’s keeping others from doing so. In fact, if anyone does welcome them, he’s throwing them out of the church.
