We’re well known, but people treat us as if we were unknown. We’re dying, but we continue to live. We’re beaten, but we’re not killed.

It is written, “Because of you, we face death all day long. We’re regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

It’s true that I haven’t been trained as a speaker, but I do have knowledge. I’ve made that perfectly clear to you in every way.

Instead, we refuse to do secret and shameful things. We don’t trick anyone, and we don’t twist God’s word. We do just the opposite! We present the truth plainly so that everyone can judge us in their own conscience before God.

It feels as if God has put us apostles on display like the people who are put at the end of the procession to the arena because they’re going to die there. And it feels as if the whole universe is watching, both angels and humans.

Knowing we’re going to face judgment puts the fear of God in us, and we don’t pretend to anyone that we’re something we’re not. What we truly are is clear to God, and I hope that you’re clearly aware of it too.

I face death every day, just as surely as I take pride in what Christ Jesus our Lord has done for you through my work.

Still, when the Lord judges us in this way, he’s correcting us so that we won’t be judged in the end along with the rest of the world.

through the power of signs and wonders, and through the power of the Spirit of God. I have now preached the good news about Christ to everyone from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum.

But I don’t know exactly what to write about him to His Majesty. So I’ve brought him here today so that all of you—and especially you, King Agrippa—can listen to him. I hope that because of this hearing, I can figure out something to write about his case.

Instead, they argued with him about their own beliefs and about a man named Jesus. They said he was dead, but Paul claimed he was alive.

But you’ve seen and heard what this man Paul is doing. Here in Ephesus and almost everywhere in the province of Asia he has led large numbers of people away from our gods. He says that gods made by human hands aren’t gods at all.

A group of Epicurean and Stoic thinkers began to argue with him. Some of them asked, “What is this person blabbing on about?” Others said, “He seems to be talking about gods we’ve never heard of.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and saying that he’d risen from the dead.
