We know the earthly tent we live in will be destroyed. But we have a building made by God himself, a house not made by human hands. It lasts forever, waiting for us in heaven.
Dear friends, now we are children of God. We don’t know yet what we will be. But we know that when Christ appears, we’ll be like him, because we’ll see him as he really is.
Christ didn’t enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one. He entered heaven itself in order to appear before God on our behalf. He’s there right now.
But we’re like clay jars that hold a valuable treasure. We carry the good news around in these earthly bodies of ours to show that its mighty power comes from God and not from us.
But then, when Christ came as the high priest of the good things that have already arrived, he went through the greater and more perfect holy tent. That tent wasn’t made with human hands. In other words, it’s not part of this creation.
While we live in this tent of ours, we groan and feel weighed down. We don’t want our clothes to fall off. Instead, we want to be fully dressed with our heavenly home. That way the part of us that dies will be will swallowed up in life.
In Christ, you have received a circumcision that has not been done by human hands. Your circumcision has been done by Christ, and he has put away the person you used to be when wrong desires ruled over you.
That’s why I’m suffering the way I am. But I’m not ashamed, because I know the one I’ve believed in and I’m certain that he’s able to protect what I’ve given him. I can trust him with it until the day he returns.
