When I was with you and needed something, I didn’t make you pay for it. The believers who came from Macedonia provided everything I needed. I haven’t made you pay for anything at all, and I won’t ever do that.

Brothers and sisters, I’m sure you remember how hard we worked. We labored night and day while we preached God’s good news to you so that we wouldn’t cause you any expense.

We weren’t expecting people to praise us. We weren’t looking for praise from anybody, not from you and not from anyone else, even though we could have demanded respect as apostles of Christ.

Some were killed with stones, some were sawed in two, and some were killed by swords. They went around wearing the skins of sheep and goats. They were poor, systematically oppressed, and mistreated.

But I think it’s necessary to send Epaphroditus back to you now. He’s my brother in the Lord, and he’s a worker and a soldier for Christ together with me. He’s also your messenger, because you sent him to take care of my needs.

Your gifts will meet the needs of the Lord’s people, but that’s not all. They will also cause many people to thank God.

Instead, we try to show in every way that we’re genuine servants of God. We endure through troubles, hard times, and suffering.

I wasn’t greedy for anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.

and because they were tentmakers like him, he stayed and worked with them.

After Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul spent all his time preaching, showing the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah.

The believers in Macedonia and Achaia have kindly taken an offering to help the poor among the Lord’s people in Jerusalem.

I was glad when Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus arrived. They have provided me with what you couldn’t give me.
