Three times I was beaten with sticks. Once they tried to kill me by throwing stones at me. Three times I was shipwrecked. I spent a night and a day in the open sea.

Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over to their side. They threw stones at Paul and then dragged him out of the city, thinking he was dead.

Some were killed with stones, some were sawed in two, and some were killed by swords. They went around wearing the skins of sheep and goats. They were poor, systematically oppressed, and mistreated.

But Paul replied to the officers, “The judges had us beaten in public. They didn’t give us a trial, even though we are Roman citizens! Then they threw us into prison. And now they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come and lead us out personally.”

In the middle of the night the jailer took Paul and Silas and washed their wounds. Right after that, he and everyone who lived with him were baptized.

Some Jews and Gentiles, with their leaders, made a plot to attack Paul and Barnabas and kill them by stoning them.

“But the renters mistreated his slaves. They beat one of them, killed another, and threw stones at a third.

The commander wanted to find out why the people were shouting at Paul like this. So he ordered him to be taken into the fort, whipped, and questioned.

and hand him over to the Gentiles, who will make fun of him and whip him. They will nail him to a cross, but on the third day he will rise from the dead!”

and hold on to faith and a clear conscience. Some people have rejected these things, and now their faith is like a sinking ship.
