I was circumcised on the eighth day. I’m part of the people of Israel. I’m from the tribe of Benjamin. I’m a pure Hebrew.

But let me ask, did God reject his people? Not at all! I myself belong to Israel. I am one of Abraham’s children, from the tribe of Benjamin.

They’ve been adopted as God’s children. God’s glory belongs to them, and so do the covenants. They received the law and they were taught to worship in the temple. They were given the promises,

“I’m a Jew. I was born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but I grew up here in Jerusalem. I studied with Gamaliel, who trained me well in the law that was given to our people long ago. I wanted to honor God as much as any of you do.

Don’t think you’re safe just because you can say, ‘We come from Abraham.’ I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones.

In those days when the number of disciples was growing, the Greek-speaking Jews complained about the Jews who were native to Judea. They said that their own widows weren’t getting their fair share of the food that was given out each day to those in need.

It’s the same with the promises that God made to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture doesn’t say, “and to your seeds.” That would mean many people. It says, “and to your seed.” That means one person—Christ.
