Scripture says, “Don’t stop an ox from eating while it helps separate the grain from the straw.” Scripture also says, “Workers are worthy of their pay.”

So those who preach the good news should also receive their living from that work. That’s what the Lord has commanded.

Stay there and eat and drink whatever they give you, because workers are worthy of their pay. Don’t move around from house to house.

Don’t bring a bag for the journey, or any extra clothes or sandals or a walking stick. A worker deserves to be given what’s needed.

Scripture says with good reason that God wants the spirit he put in us to belong only to him.

Scripture says, “The one who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

In Scripture, God says to Pharaoh, “I had a special reason for making you king. I decided to use you to show my power so that my name would become known everywhere on earth.”

Scripture saw long ago that God would make the Gentiles right with himself by faith. It announced the good news ahead of time to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”

God didn’t reject his people, the ones he knew ahead of time. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the story of Elijah? Elijah complained to God about Israel and said,

But what does Scripture say? It says, “Abraham believed God, and this faith was counted as being right with God.”
