Some people pretend to be humble, and they worship angels. But don’t let people like that judge you. These people tell you in great detail about the visions they’ve seen, and they’re conceited because of all the ideas they have. But their ideas are really useless, because their minds aren’t guided by the Holy Spirit.
But the beast was captured, along with the false prophet who’d done signs for the beast. With those signs the false prophet had deceived those who’d received the mark of the beast and worshiped its statue. The beast and the false prophet were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
The first beast had given the second beast the power to perform these signs, and by these signs, the second beast tricked those who live on the earth. The second beast ordered people to set up a statue to honor the first beast. The first beast was the one who’d been wounded by a sword but had survived.
A group of Epicurean and Stoic thinkers began to argue with him. Some of them asked, “What is this person blabbing on about?” Others said, “He seems to be talking about gods we’ve never heard of.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and saying that he’d risen from the dead.
