A leader must also have a good reputation among those who are outside the church. If it turns out that he’s done a lot of wrong things, he’ll be embarrassed, and the devil will be able to ruin his work.

So we’re trying hard to do what both the Lord and people will see as right.

That way they may come to their senses and escape the devil’s trap, since he has taken them as prisoners to do what he wants.

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders. Make the most of every opportunity.

People who want to get rich are tempted, and they fall into a trap. They start to have many foolish and harmful desires that drag them down into ruin and destruction.

Then outsiders will have respect for your everyday life, and you won’t have to depend on anyone.

We don’t put anything in anyone’s way, so no one should find fault with our work.

Don’t do anything that causes other people to trip and fall, whether Jews or Greeks or God’s church.

What business do I have judging those who are outside the church? But aren’t you supposed to judge those who are inside the church?

Demetrius has a good reputation with everyone, and even with the truth itself. We can also vouch for him personally, and you know you can trust our word.

A leader must not be a new believer. Otherwise, he might become proud and go wrong, just as the devil did.
