Dear friends, don’t believe every spirit. Instead, test the spirits to see if they are from God. Many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Don’t live the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you’ll be able to recognize what God wants for you and agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect.

So find out what pleases the Lord,

The Berean Jews were more reasonable than those in Thessalonica. They received Paul’s message gladly and studied the Scriptures carefully every day to see if what Paul said was true.

“Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?

Finally, my brothers and sisters, whatever is noble, right, and pure, whatever is lovely and worthy of respect, if anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those things.

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil. Hold on to what is good.

So remember what you’ve been taught and what you’ve heard. Hold firmly to it and turn away from your sins. If you don’t wake up, I’ll come like a thief, and you won’t know when I’m coming to you.

Just make sure that you live up to what you’ve already reached.

My dear brothers and sisters, remain strong in the faith. Don’t let anything move you. Always give yourselves completely to the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord, your work isn’t for nothing.

Then you’ll be able to recognize the things that are best, and you’ll be pure and blameless on the day when Christ returns.

Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you obey my teaching, you are really my disciples.

I’m not asking you to do anything else except to hold on to what you have until I come.

Let’s hold firmly to the hope we say we have, because the one who promised is faithful.

They’re the kind of people who take advantage of vulnerable women. They get into their homes and get control over them. These women are already struggling with wrong behaviors they can’t stop giving in to.

So whenever we get the chance to do something good for anyone, let’s do it, and especially for people within the family of believers.

Make sure that no one pays back one wrong act with another. Instead, always try to do what’s good for each other and for everyone else.

but get far away from every kind of evil.
