So follow the way of love, and be eager to have the gifts of the Spirit. Most of all, you should want the gift of prophecy.

Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.

God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, guiding, and speaking in different kinds of languages.

Then Paul placed his hands on them, and the Holy Spirit came on them. They spoke in unknown languages and they prophesied.

Now we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can understand all the secret things of God and know everything about him, and if I have enough faith to move mountains, but I don’t have love, I’m nothing at all.

To another he gives the power to do miracles, or to prophesy, or to tell spirits apart, or to speak in different kinds of languages they hadn’t known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages.

If anyone refuses to accept this teaching, they’re not rejecting a human being. They’re rejecting God, the very same God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers. Among them were Barnabas, Simeon (also called Niger), Lucius from Cyrene, and Manaen, who’d been brought up with Herod, the ruler of Galilee. Saul was among them too.

Dear friends, don’t believe every spirit. Instead, test the spirits to see if they are from God. Many false prophets have gone out into the world.
