Christ also suffered once for sins. Someone who did right suffered for those who did wrong, in order to bring you to God. Jesus was put to death in the body, but he was made alive in the Spirit.

In the same way, Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people. He will also come a second time, not to take away our sins, but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for him.

If he had, he would have had to suffer many times since the world was created. No, he has appeared once and for all time, now when God’s work is being completed. He has come to do away with sin by offering himself.

He never sinned, but God made him become sin for us, so that in him we could be made right with God.

That’s why the good news was preached even to people who are now dead. Even though they were judged in their bodies for what they did while they lived on earth, they were told the good news so that they could live in the spirit the way God wants.

He gave himself for us to set us free from all wrongdoing and purify us, so that we can be his very own people and be eager to do what is good.

But if we confess our sins, God is trustworthy and fair. He’ll forgive our sins and make us pure from every wrong thing we’ve done.

Jesus was handed over to die for our sins, and he was raised to life in order to make us right with God.

Since Christ suffered in his body, protect yourselves by having the same attitude that he did, because anyone who suffers in their body is finished with sin.

God did what the written law was not able to do, since it was weakened by our sinful desires. God sent his Son to be an offering for sin. He sent him in human form like those who are susceptible to sin. When God did this, he passed judgment against sin so that it could no longer control people through their wrong desires.

Christ set us free from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. It is written, “Everyone who is hanged on a pole is under God’s curse.”

Jesus gave his life for our sins. He did this to set us free from the evil age we’re now living in.

It’s true that Christ was nailed to the cross in weakness, but now he’s alive by God’s power. In the same way, we share his weakness, but by God’s power we’ll be alive with Christ as we deal with you.

Through him we have access, by faith, to that grace in which we are established, and we pride ourselves in the hope of the glory of God.

and he was appointed by the Holy Spirit to be the mighty Son of God when God raised him from the dead. This is Jesus Christ our Lord.

You’ve declared innocent people guilty and murdered them, even when they weren’t opposing you.

You spoke against the Holy and Blameless One, and you asked for a murderer to be set free instead.

Not that we would ever treat you harshly as believers; you’re strong in your own faith, and we work together with you for your joy.

If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then the one who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

“Then he said, ‘The God of our people has chosen you, and he wants you to know the plans he has for you, to see the Blameless One, and to hear his voice.

Pilate also wanted to release Jesus because he’d gotten a message from his wife while he was judging the case. The message said, “Don’t do anything to that man. He’s innocent. I had a terrible nightmare about him last night.”

Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere. Instead, the crowd was starting to get angry. So he took water and washed his hands in front of them. “I’m not guilty of this man’s death,” he said. “You’re accountable for that!”

They can be made right with God because I’m going to the Father and you won’t see me anymore.

Through him and through faith in him we can approach God freely and confidently.

So how much cleaner will the blood of Christ make us! He offered himself to God without any flaw through the power of the eternal Holy Spirit. His blood washes away our feelings of guilt for committing sin. Sin always leads to death. But now we can serve the living God.

And by that will, we’ve been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all time.

Then he went and told the good news to the spirits who were being held in prison.
