People who don’t believe might accuse you of doing wrong. But lead such good lives among them that they’ll see your good deeds and give glory to God on the day Jesus returns.

Keep your conscience clear, so that even if people say bad things about you as believers in Christ, they’ll be ashamed when the way you live proves them wrong.

In the same way, let your light shine so that others can see it. Then they’ll see the good things you do and praise your Father who is in heaven.

So we’re trying hard to do what both the Lord and people will see as right.

Then outsiders will have respect for your everyday life, and you won’t have to depend on anyone.

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you’re a young person. Instead, set an example for the believers in what you say and in how you live, how you love, and in what you believe. Show the believers how to be pure.

If anyone among you is wise and understanding, they should show it by living a good life and doing things with the humility that comes from being wise.

But no matter what happens, live in a way that brings honor to the good news about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you, I’ll know that you’re standing firm together in the one Spirit and that you’re fighting together as a unit to defend the good news.

With God’s help, we’ve acted toward everyone, and especially toward you, honorably and honestly. We can say that with pride and a clear conscience. We’ve depended on God’s grace and not on the world’s wisdom.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people should you be? You should lead holy and godly lives

Let’s act properly, like people living in the daytime. Don’t go to wild parties and don’t get drunk. Don’t do anything immoral or indecent. Don’t get into fights or be jealous of anyone.

Don’t pay back evil with evil. Be careful to do what everyone considers right.

Pray for us. We’re sure that we’ve done what’s right, but we want to keep on living honorably in every way.

Pray for kings and for everyone who is in authority, so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives. And pray that we will be godly and holy.

Finally, my brothers and sisters, whatever is noble, right, and pure, whatever is lovely and worthy of respect, if anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those things.

You were taught not to live the way you used to, but to get rid of that old way of life, which was corrupted by its deceptive desires.

Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, because God has said, “I’ll never leave you; I’ll never abandon you.”

He also did this so that the Gentiles would give glory to God for his mercy. It is written, “I will praise you among the Gentiles. I will sing the praises of your name.”

Because you didn’t recognize the time when God came to you, your enemies will smash you to the ground. They will destroy you and all the people inside your walls, and they won’t leave one stone on top of another.”

It’s enough for students to be like their teachers and for slaves to be like their masters. If the head of the household has been called Beelzebul, the prince of demons, what should the others who live in the house expect to be called?

“Blessed are you when, because of me, people insult you and attack you and falsely accuse you of doing all kinds of bad things.

If anyone speaks, they should do it as someone who’s speaking God’s own words. If anyone serves, they should do it with the strength that God provides. That way God will be praised in all things through Jesus Christ. May he receive the glory and power for ever and ever. Amen.

At one time we all lived among those things. We followed our wrong desires and thoughts, and we tried to satisfy what they wanted us to do. God was angry with us, as he was with everyone else, because of the kind of people we all were.

I pray to God that you won’t do anything wrong—not so that people will see that I’ve passed the test, but so that you will do what is right, even if it seems that I’ve failed.

Simon Peter has described for us how God chose some of the Gentiles to be among his very own people.

Those who serve Christ in this way are pleasing to God, and people approve of them too.

and she must be well known for doing good things such as bringing up children, inviting guests into her home, serving the Lord’s people in humble ways, and helping those in trouble. A widow should spend her time doing all kinds of good things like these.

By doing good, you’ll stop to the talk of foolish people who don’t know what they’re saying. This is what God wants you to do.
